Senior year moves faster than anyone warns you about. One morning you're picking out your cap and gown, and before you know it, the chapter is closing. Your senior portraits aren't just pictures — they're a pause button on one of the most significant milestones of your life, and they deserve to be made with real care.

At Clara June Photography, I work with Northeast Ohio seniors to create portraits that feel genuine, unhurried, and completely you. If you've ever wondered what actually happens when you book a session — from the first email to the final gallery — I'm laying it all out right here.

Step One: We Start With a Real Conversation

After you reach out, we'll connect to talk about you — your style, your personality, and the kind of images you're dreaming of. Are you drawn to something soft and golden in an open field? Do you love the architectural drama of an urban setting? Do you want something editorial and bold, or warm and tender?

This is also where we talk locations. As a Northeast Ohio senior photographer, I've had the privilege of shooting across this entire region — and I have a few favorites that photograph beautifully no matter the season.

Two of my most-requested spots are the Cleveland Public Library and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The Cleveland Public Library offers stunning architecture, grand staircases, and rich, warm interiors that create portraits with a timeless, editorial feel — perfect for seniors who love a sophisticated look. Cuyahoga Valley National Park, just south of Cleveland, gives us sweeping trails, open meadows, waterfalls, and that iconic Ohio light filtering through the forest canopy. Whether you want lush summer greenery or the golden warmth of fall foliage, CVNP delivers every single time.

Of course, we can also shoot closer to home — a beloved park, your family's property, or a downtown district that feels like you. The location should feel personal, not generic.

What Your Senior Session Day Looks Like

Here's an honest, step-by-step look at how your session unfolds:

01 — Arrival and Settling In

We meet at our first location with plenty of breathing room — no rushing, no clock-watching. We'll walk around, chat, and let you get comfortable before a single frame is taken. The goal is for you to feel like yourself, not like you're performing.

02 — First Outfit and Warm-Up

Most people feel a little stiff in front of the camera at first. That's completely normal and expected. The first few minutes are about getting you moving and laughing, not chasing the "perfect" shot. By the time we're ten minutes in, you'll forget the camera is even there.

03 — Location and Outfit Changes

[PARAGRAPH]

We'll flow between your chosen spots and swap looks as we go. If we're starting at the Cleveland Public Library, we might move to a nearby outdoor space for a second look. If we're deep in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, I'll have scouted the route in advance so transitions are smooth and efficient. I guide every pose and every transition — you'll never have to wonder what to do with your hands.

04 — Golden Hour

If we're shooting outdoors at sunset — and I highly recommend it — this is where the magic happens. The light in Northeast Ohio during golden hour is genuinely special, especially in CVNP where the open meadows catch the last warmth of the day. This is typically when we get the most stunning, emotional images of the entire session.

05 — Wrap-Up and Sneak Peek

We finish up, and I'll share a sneak peek on Instagram within a few days so you have something to hold onto while I work on your full gallery. Your friends and family will be obsessed.

After Your Session: The Gallery Experience

Within a few weeks of your session, you'll receive a link to your private online gallery — a curated collection of your fully edited portraits. I spend real, unhurried time on every image, making sure the light, tone, and color reflect the mood we created together.

From your gallery, you can download your digitals and order prints, wall art, or albums. Many of my Northeast Ohio senior clients order something for their own room and something for mom — because she has been waiting for this moment for eighteen years, and she deserves a beautiful print on her wall.

Why Northeast Ohio Seniors Choose Clara June Photography

I've worked across this region long enough to know that we have something genuinely beautiful here. The Cuyahoga Valley in fall. The architecture and energy of Cleveland. The rolling countryside of Summit and Medina counties. The way the light sits low and golden on an October afternoon. I love building sessions that feel rooted in this place — because these portraits should tell the story of who you are right now, in this exact landscape, at this exact moment.

Senior portraits from your Northeast Ohio session will sit on your parents' walls, live inside your graduation announcements, and be passed down through your family for decades. They deserve to be made with intention and heart.

I only take a limited number of senior clients each season, so if you're a Class of 2026 or Class of 2027 senior in the Cleveland, Akron, or surrounding Northeast Ohio area, I'd love to connect.
